Before you make the decision to begin psychotherapy or counselling you may have some questions about what the process might entail or how it might help you. Since evidence suggests that it is the relationship between you and your psychotherapist that has one of the greatest impacts on the success of the work you do in psychotherapy, I offer a free initial consultation to all prospective clients, with no obligation on either side.
This gives you an opportunity to describe what you would like to get out of coming to therapy at this time, and to ask any questions that you may have about my approach as a psychotherapist, training or qualifications. It is important that we feel able to work together and it can be useful to have time and space to reflect on that before starting work together.
An initial consultation may be more structured than the usual therapy session. This depends on the needs of the person seeking psychotherapy or counselling. I will support each client in expressing their needs and carefully listen to their issues, answer any questions and assist in formulating aims for future therapy.
If we decide to continue, we would then meet at a regular time each week, giving you plenty of time and space to explore what matters to you.
